TTT Interview #6 with Rebecca Pflaum

Kundalini yoga? What?! That airy fairy bohemian thingamajig?!! Before you pass judgment, read more here. Better yet, give it a chance like we did.

Kundalini is the yoga of awareness. It is the practice of physical, mental and spiritual discipline, the harnessing of energy through the 7 chakras.

Rebecca Pflaum teaches out of her home off Jervois and Eliza & I dropped in one Saturday morning bright and early. It was us 2 & another 2 & Benji the cutest dog ever.

Her place is a haven of peacefulness, an oasis of calm energy. We felt right at home immediately. Rebecca’s been teaching yoga for 16 years, and practising Kundalini since 2001. There is a certain subtle radiance about her that beckons. And today there was a subdued excitement which we couldn’t put a finger on (more of that later).

We went through a series of what looked like gentle exercises, but trust me when you do it regularly enough, it isn’t half as easy as it looks. The exercises involved repetitive movements – left to right, right to left; up & down and round & round. We achieved a calm warm meditative state very quickly through the constant rhythmic movements; you start to feel a little tingly at the fingertips, through the arms, a touch of sweat beads on the forehead & the buzz soon gets to the crown of the head…

It’s easy to see why people return to this ancient practice. Kundalini is like a poor misunderstood hitchhiker by the roadside- just waiting for someone to stop, pick her up & find out more. Like Rebecca did years ago. And for her, it is now at the stage where she feels there’s so much more to give. And so, come June, she will be teaching permanently out of her new home – in Ubud!! (www.nayaubud.com) And when we found out about this, the reason for the pulse of excitement was suddenly clear. Rebecca intends to go beyond teaching; her new space will allow her to host retreats on a regular basis, as well as bring her closer to her artisanal craftsmen in Bali…

As she pours us tea (aromatic & home made chai tea!), she chats about this that and other. We learn that Rebecca’s other life as a Chakra Jewelry designer manifested a few years back in 2006, although it only took off recently when she teamed up with Sophie, and suddenly in the blink of an eye, ChakraMa was retailing in the Americas & Europe. And on this note, we can’t tell you how super pleased we are that we also carry a range of ChakraMa in TTT!

Here are some of our favorite ChakraMa items-
